Swiss Army Librarian » Reference Question of the Week – 9/19/10 :: Brian Herzog
I read through a couple of Herzog’s postings before I came to this one and felt like it just had to be shared.
Without going into detail and ruining the opportunity for somebody else to click on the link above to view the site, I will explain why I thought this was an excellent post to pass along. The man with the missing cell phone experienced librarianship at its finest. I’m sure when he went home he relayed the same story to his family. Perhaps after he retrieved his lost phone he sent out a few texts excitedly providing every detail of the awesome service at the library. Whatever action he chose to follow up his good fortune, the library inadvertently benefited. This is all because one librarian chose to go the extra mile and page for the patron. Did that librarian have a choice? Oh yes, he could have simply said that his job didn’t include reuniting people with their cell phones. That is what we all should strive to do. Go the extra mile to make our libraries special places.
The smile is still on my lips.
