Smithsonian Libraries: Connect and Learn with the Libraries

Smithsonian Libraries: Connect and Learn with the Libraries

This blog ties in very nicely with what we are learning about in class right now.  How can we meld technology and traditional librarianship to patrons?  Simple, present our collections online for people around the world to view.  The question that may arise from this, “What if all libraries go digital then will there be a need for Librarians?”  I feel that the simple answer to that question would be, “yes.”  I personally can not see a world in which a place that is called a library, whether digital or not, would not have a person running the show whose title would be Librarian.

Librarians will always have a place as long as there is a need to access information.  We librarians will simply need to adjust our way of viewing our jobs to meet the needs of our patrons.

October is computer month.  Go to your local library and celebrate technology with the staff!  😉
