Swiss Army Librarian » The Resurrection of Newspaper Obituaries: Brian Herzog
This week the Swiss Army Librarian educates readers on how to create an obituary database. The posting was intricate and complicated, but once you got into the minute details it’s a helpful piece of writing.
Genealogy is one of those little gems in the field of Library Science. I remember a high school project sent me to several community libraries, museums and churches to scour through books and microfiche for information on the deceased. The system being developed by the library in Chelmsford would have been very helpful all those many years ago.
Today, several of my relatives are passionate about digging into the past and posting pictures, obituaries and stories of long lost relatives. I’m glad for their passion because I love reading each detail. I especially love reading their findings because I lack the time to delve into the family tree.
I’m also glad for detailed Web pages and blogs from experts in the field of research who spend generous amounts of time freely sharing their knowledge.
